FRUIT ART | REAL Vs VIRTUAL LIFE (FA-RVsVL)

Exploring How Nature Makes Fiction Come Alive

by Franz Fischnaller
FA-RVsVL is dedicated to David Attenborough
for his unbreakable passion for research, documentation,
advocacy and for the protection of nature and its restoration.

“People must feel that the natural world is important and valuable and beautiful and wonderful
and an amazement and a pleasure.” David Attenborough

Project Summary
8K/3D Stereo Gigapixel immersive fruit art-based experience, gravitating around the invisible world of fruits. Visitors are virtually transferred “inside” the fruits. Avatar AIAG ( i.e GAIA) created ad hoc for this project, is a 3D hybrid anthropomorphic – winged creature, with intriguing power and performances. AIAG is in part wo/hu/man, cyborg, seahorse, dragonfly, birth and jn part a tree. Her wings are covered by a smart skin, leaves and wind her tail has the power of the root trees.

FRUIT ART REAL|VS|VIRTUAL LIFE (FA-RVSVL) is an 8K-3D stereo immersive storytelling, gravitating around the invisible multilayered universe of the fruit’s inner body, that visualizes the unimaginable and uncovers the poetry of the unseen in nature.
This first episode is dedicated to the apple and is entitled: “FA-RVsVL EP1 Apple”.

FA-RVsVL EP1 Apple” virtually transfer visitors “inside” the inner beauty and intriguing kinetic world of the apple, making visible the invisible to the naked eyes and gaining unthinkable insights of the fruit‘s secret wonders and intriguing multi-dimensional aesthetics and pictorial world and it’s composition.

Through FA-RVsVL the author aims, among others, to recreate the nature’s intriguing life, making visible the invisible to the naked eyes, to uncover the poetry of the unseen, visualizing the unimaginable in nature, triggering emotional connections and affinity to the natural world. An experience that can inspire, stimulate, entertain, inform and bring awareness to the audience.

In a botanical sense, a fruit “Mature Ovaries of Nature” is the fleshy or dry ripened ovary of a flowering plant, enclosing the seed or seeds. Britannica

When we eat a fruit we immerse it in our inner body, instead with FA-RVsVL EP1 Apple is us to immerse our senses of perception into the inner body of the fruit, making us feel and envision the extraordinary beauty of
what helps us to keep alive.”

FA-RVsVL EP1 Apple combines emerging forms of 3D stereoscopic data with an experimental approach to immersive narratives, sound and visual art with mixed media tools and techniques. It uses Computed Tomography Scan (CT SCAN) technology, digital animation, 3D modelling, time-lapse photography, 4K 3D stereoscopic 180 degree of natural world footage, immersive point clouds and photogrammetry, mixed and arranged with music and special sound effects.

The CT SCAN is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to get detailed images of the body non invasively for diagnostic purposes. ”A CT scan, also known as a Computer Tomography scan, is created when a computer program processes a combination of a large number of x-ray images taken from different angles. The result is cross-sectional (i.e. tomographic) image sequence of the scanned object. Tomography is imaging by sections or sectioning through the use of any kind of penetrating wave…” Johns Hopkins Medicine

The Avatar AIAG (reverse: GAIA), coexist within FA-RVsVL EP1 Apple‘s METAVERSE embedded in virtual environments and helps the user to discover “How Nature Makes Fiction Come Alive”.

AIAG is a 3D hybrid anthropomorphic winged creature, “born” from the seed of an apple, scaling from a 1 cm sized apple seed up to a scale of 16 mt on the screens of the Deep Space in 8K stereo.

A versatile polyfacetic creature with powerful performances with rare crossbreed beauty. She is in part a wo/hu/man, a cyborg, a seahorse, a dragonfly and a tree. Her dragonfly wings are covered by a smart skin. Her cyber tail has the power of a root of a tree. AIAG has the power to create, recreate adapt, scale and morph.

Her unique scientific and humanistic knowledge combined with the intelligence of the natural world, living and not-living Things; she’s fond of ecology, sustainability and the interaction between nature, animals and humans for Gaia’s defense.

FA-RVsVL EP1 Apple, was launched at Ars Electronica Festival 2022 as a work in progress during the festival entitled “Welcome to Planet B”. It was displayed in the Deep Space 8K, a spectacular 3D-8K stereo multi-user immersive projection space of 16×9 MT wall and floor projection with laser tracking, for interactive, stereoscopic and high-definition content, that can host up to 160 persons simultaneously.

In FA-RVsVL EP1 Apple the CT scanned apples of 7 cm in diameter are projected in stereo up to 500 times bigger on the display of the Deep Space in 8K full scale (wall and floor 16×18 meters), while the seeds (1 cm/real size) are projected in full scale 800 times bigger.

FA-RVsVL EP1 Apple will be shown in the Deep Space 8K international of the Ars Electronica Center, starting from the 2024 across multiple countries.

The Apple is one of the oldest and most potent symbols in Western mythology.

It appears in many religious, traditions, mythology, folktales, storytelling. Often as a mystical enigmatic sacred fruit. A symbol for knowledge, healing power, immortality, nature connector, good health, happiness, wisdom, temptation, fantasy and eternal love.

It is related as the fruit of the Gods in the Celtic mythology, the golden apples of Garden of Hesperides, guarded by the dragon, Ladon in the Greek mythology, the “forbidden fruit” of the tree of knowledge of good and evil that generate the fall of man and sin.

It recalls us for being Snow White, red poisoned half apple of the evil queen, the half-eaten cyanide poisoning apple that killed Alan Turing, the brilliant pioneer of computer science, as the symbol of New York and the bitten Apple logo.

“... last and not less… Apples have impressive Health Benefits and are one of the most widely consumed fruits globally.Healthline
